Vision

A while back the wife and I attended a Family Vision conference at the Vineyard.  It was a Friday night, Saturday day type deal where the purpose was to re-emphasize the importance of family with a foundation in the understanding and application of Psalm 78:1-11 through building of relationships within the family.  We got a lot out of this and came away with a vision for our family 2 and 3 generations into the future.  Part of the process was coming up with our families Motto, Mission, Values, Principles, etc.; and prominently displaying it referring to Habakkuk 2:2-3:

And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.  For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie.  If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

We're working on getting this written out for our home on things that we'll pass down to our girls, but for now this will be our 'tablets'

The decisions we make today will echo throughout eternity.  Therefore we must use a peaceful heart, passionate spirit, sharp mind, and Kingdom vision in the choices we make.

It is our calling as followers of Christ to be a positive impact on the people in our lives:

  • by being an active citizen in the Kingdom of God and submitting to Christ our King
  • by reflecting God's love and responding to our unique call
  • by giving not only of our possessions but our time & energies as well
  • by having integrity in all our relationships; God, family, friends, business
  • by showing infectious love that it is impossible to not be affected & changed
  • by fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect towards one another
  • by each family member committing to meet the needs of the family
  • by seeking, hearing, learning, knowing, and sharing Truth

For this to have an impact for generations to come it is imperative that Husbands & Wives remain deeply committed to their covenant and that the parents of our children's children carry the torch of Light & Truth into the future.

Perhaps this may seem too extreme or maybe some would ask why do all the extra work.  I'm going to borrow from Greg Gunn here but because I know the following is true that's what makes it all worth it.  If you're married then your spouse is probably, or at least should be, the second most important thing in the world to you (second only to God).  Businesses spend millions on developing their culture and their mission statement because they know if they work without a goal there would be no direction and no purpose and the business would fail.  Coaches have regular meetings with their teams, giving the same instruction over and over again because they know without that time together of casting the vision of a National title, the title will never happen.  So if coaches and businesses spend all this time and effort for the success of their perspective ventures then why in the world would you not have a vision for your family?  Why would you not develop a mission statement for your family, are they not that much more important?
